Film and television company A24was responsible for producing films such as The Iron Claw, The Whale, and the Oscar-winning film 2023 Everything Everywhere All At Once (Multiverse Wars), recently announced that they will be collaborating with Kojima Productions to produce versions live-action adapted from Death Stranding. The news was announced on A24’s online store and Twitter account, through a new T-shirt style printed with an illustrated logo in the style of Death Stranding.
The t-shirt’s description reads: “It’s official: we’ve teamed up with Kojima Productions to make a live-action movie from the popular video game Hideo Kojima, Death Stranding”. News of a Death Stranding film adaptation first emerged in 2022, but at the time, the film’s producers remained a mystery.
Directed by Kojima shared in their blog post about their decision to partner with the independent studio: “A24 was founded about 10 years ago, their presence is unique in the industry, they are like no other. The studio’s approach to storytelling is consistent with what Kojima Productions has pursued over the past eight years. And now we’re making a Death Stranding movie together. There are many movie adaptations of games on the market, but what we are creating is not simply a movie version of the game. Our aim was to produce a film for both gaming fans and anyone who loves cinema. We will create a Death Stranding universe never seen before, one that can only be shown in movies.”
Death Stranding is the first game from Kojima Productions – the studio founded by director Hideo Kojima after he left Konami a few years ago – and is set in a world where humanity is on the brink of extinction after a devastating disaster. destroy the planet and bring dangerous ghosts to the world. As Sam Porter, players must explore the harsh land while always lurking in danger. The game also stars some big Hollywood names such as Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen and Léa Seydoux.
