Ubisoft announced Tom Clancy’s The Division 3

Massive Entertainment, the studio currently working on Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, is the original developer of The Division 1 and 2. Ubisoft said Massive is building the team for the third game in the series. Star Wars Outlaws creative director Julian Gerighty has just been appointed executive producer for The Division series, a franchise that attracts nearly 40 million players. Mr. Gerighty will oversee all of The Division’s games and products, incl The Division 3.

In a press release, Ubisoft said: “This appointment demonstrates Ubisoft’s dedication to the franchise. In his new role, Mr. Julian will drive the multiple production elements of The Division franchise in a unified direction. This includes overseeing the development, operations and creative vision alongside the teams currently involved in developing Tom Clancy’s mobile game The Division ResurgenceTom Clancy’s The Division Heartland and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2.”

Tom Clancy’s The Division launched in 2016 after a splashy gameplay reveal at E3 2013, heralding the start of the next generation of Ubisoft’s new Snowdrop engine. Players are tasked with rebuilding Manhattan in New York City in a hypothetical post-virus pandemic future. Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 launched in 2019 and is set in a future Washington, DC reconstructed by players. However, the game was unable to repeat the success of its predecessor. Ubisoft has admitted that The Division 2 is underperforming commercially. Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland, a free-to-play spin-off will launch next year.
