Tekken 8 is off to a solid start on Steam, surpassing its predecessor’s concurrent player count on the platform. Tekken 8 is the eighth main game in the long-running fighting game series, promoted as the final installment in the Mishima family drama. 2023 is an impressive year for the fighting game series with two bright names, Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1. SteamDB’s latest chart shows that Tekken 8 reached nearly 50,000 concurrent players on Steam just about an hour after it was released on the platform. When compared with the figure of Tekken 7it was clear that it had given its predecessor “smoke”.​

For reference, Tekken 7’s concurrent player base was just under 19,000, which was around the time the game launched on Steam in June, a difference of over 31,000 players. Tekken 8’s remarkable performance can be attributed to the increased popularity of Tekken over the past few years, coupled with strong marketing from Bandai Namco for the game.

Based on data from SteamDB, Tekken 8’s concurrent players have surpassed other fighting games published by Bandai Namco. While Tekken 8’s numbers did not surpass those of Dark Souls 3 or Tales of Arise, it surpassed the previous milestone set by Dragon Ball FighterZ, peaking at 44,303 players at launch. Additionally, Tekken 8 is currently maintaining its highest level of over 40,000 players after two days of launch.

Tekken 8’s momentum isn’t slowing down as Bandai Namco has announced a Year 1 Season Pass, which will add four new characters to the game. Bandai Namco also confirmed that the game’s first DLC character is Eddy Gordo, a Brazilian boxer who was once very popular with his unique fighting style of capoeira martial arts.​
