Larian Studios has concluded development not only on Baldur’s Gate 3, the best RPG of 2023, but also on the entire series. According to studio founder Swen Vincke, during a talk at the Game Developers Conference (GDC), his team will no longer continue to develop this series but move on to new goals.
As reported by IGN, Vincke said during a talk at GDC on March 21 that Larian Studios will not be working on a Baldur’s Gate 3 expansion or a sequel to the Dungeons & Dragons-inspired role-playing game series. Instead, according to Vincke, the company is planning to pivot to something completely new.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has been a success for Larian Studios since it officially launched in August 2023. The game has reached more than 10 million players and won many honors, including GOTY in The Game Awards . With much financial success and critical acclaim surrounding the game, many thought that Larian Studios would continue the momentum and develop sequels. However, they did not choose that safe path but decided to find new paths. And this is extremely admirable in a gaming industry that is filled with sequels like today.
