Most gamers agree mod is one of the biggest attractions of PC and is the reason why this platform is not as constrained as the Console – such as turning Fallout: New Vegas into Star Wars, bringing life to the town of Armadillo in Red Dead Redemption 2 or creating an AI revolution in The Witcher 3. Consoles from Sony, Nintendo, and even Microsoft are all controlled by strict regulations, so modders can’t be as creative as they are on PC.
However, Steam Deck essentially one Mobile PC so the device has full mod support. Two representatives of ValveGreg Coomer and Pierre-Loup Griffais confirm that “users can really do everything on Steam Deck is like on a regular computer… we built this device to support all of that.”
“The version of Steam running on the device is a modified PC analogue with a different user interface and controls,” Griffais added. So all the features like Steam Workshop and mod support tools will also be fully present.” So, Steam Deck users can easily register and play modded games just like a regular computer. For mods from ModDB or NexusMods, users only need to install the same as on PC.
Additionally, Coomer and Griffais also shared that Steam Deck users can install and download games from other stores such as Epic, Ubisoft Connect, GOG Galaxy or Origin.
