Apple recently made the unsurprising move of filing a petition appeal in antitrust trial against Epic – maker of Unreal Engine and Fortnite. Despite winning nine out of ten charges brought by Epic Games, Apple’s single loss was so severe that many called it a major victory for Epic.
Specifically, Apple is ordered to allow mobile applications to direct consumers to external payment methods. That helps apps avoid sharing 15-30% of their profits with Apple. This declaration is effective beginning December 9.
Apple’s appeal asks the Court to temporarily suspend the above declaration to allow the technology company to protect consumers and its platform while resolving complex legal, technological and economic issues. . Epic has also filed an appeal seeking more than one victory.
