Browsing through game news sites, we can easily come across countless articles predicting, rumors and leaks even though Rockstar is still extremely tight-lipped about this project. Previously, around the beginning of May, a fairly famous leaker revealed that GTA 6 is expected to launch in late 2023 or at most early 2024 due to the impact of the epidemic. However, according to the latest information from Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, the game is still “in the early stages of development” and must wait at least until 2025 to be released.
This news was first revealed by Tom Henderson, who has leaked a lot of information about Battlefield and Call of Duty. In a video posted to YouTube last week, this leaker announced that GTA 6 will be set in modern Vice City with a map that changes over time similar to the way Epic Games updates the map in Fortnite. The game offers multiple playable characters, including a female protagonist who takes on the role of hacker.
Henderson also made a prediction about the release date of GTA 6, that the game will be released around 2024 or 2025. In recent years, Rockstar has faced many scandals about harsh working conditions at the company. Kotaku’s 2018 report revealed the extremely stressful development process of Red Dead Redemption 2, which was nothing short of a “death march” for the staff. Faced with criticism, Rockstar was forced to change its working culture, so GTA 6 development time will probably be longer.
In response to Henderson’s “predictions” about the release date, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier posted an article on Twitter, corroborating the information provided by this leaker: “Somehow people think I said GTA 6 will be released in 2023. Because the information I heard matches Tom Henderson’s (which means the game won’t be released until 2025). In addition, Schreier also said that GTA 6 is currently only “in the early stages of development” and will have “a new/expanded map”.
Indeed, Schreier previously estimated the release date of GTA 6 to be 2023, but this was only his own prediction, and at that time, the epidemic situation was not as tense as it is now. While it seems like both Henderson and Schreier provided similar leaks, again, the rumors are still just rumors because \up until now, Rockstar hasn’t even confirmed the existence of GTA 6.
