Warning! The following article will reveal the entire ending of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. If you don’t want to be spoiled, stop reading immediately!!!

At the end of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, developer Square Enix confirmed that with the remake of the legendary game, what was once canon may now be changed. Now that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is officially available to gamers, the question on most fans’ minds is whether or not it will deviate from the structure of the original. More specifically, they want to know whether Aerith can escape her cruel end?

What is Whisper?

To best understand the concepts at play in the Final Fantasy 7 remake, we have to mention the Whispers. Although they look like cheek shadows, they are actually entities of fate. In Final Fantasy 7 Remake, we learn that only certain characters (main characters, basically) in the game can see these Whispers, and they usually try to keep the story moving along. scenario of the original game. For example, Aerith was saved by the Whispers to prevent her from meeting a fate different from her own.

Coming to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, we discovered that there are two types of Whispers: dark and light. The Light Whispers are those who try to keep the events of the game according to their intended destiny (i.e. similar to the original) while the Dark Whispers are Sephiroth’s minions and want to create chaos. Both types of Whispers will appear throughout Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, especially at the end.

How does Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth end?

Square Enix has previously revealed that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will end at Forgotten Capital. And the entire ending of the game takes place here.

After Aerith separates herself from the group and reaches the Forgotten Capital, Cloud gives chase and finds her while she is praying. It’s an iconic scene in Final Fantasy 7, except in Rebirth, there are Whispers swirling around Aerith. Cloud tries to get closer to her, but the Whispers try to stop him. Using his sword, Cloud overcomes them and reaches Aerith. He raised his sword, while Sephiroth appeared from above and swooped down with his Masamune sword, ready to deliver the ultimate finishing blow.

Surprisingly, Cloud escaped the Whispers’ grasp and deflected Sephiroth’s blade, sending it flying and crashing into the ground. For a moment, it seemed like the predictions were correct and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth had changed Aerith’s fate.

Does Aerith die in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?

But then, something strange happened. The image flashes repeatedly as Cloud struggles with his memories and we see Aerith’s blood pouring from the Masamune, as if Sephiroth had succeeded. Then, Aerith began to collapse, while the white Materia she had hidden slowly fell from the pedestal and into the water below.

The scene continuously switches, showing different versions of the same scene. At one point, we see Aerith lose the ability to move but appears to be unharmed. At other times, blood was on her clothes and wrists. As for Cloud, there is a scene where he is crying while hugging Aerith, while in another version, he is mumbling something inaudible. At the same time, there were only Light Whispers surrounding the two, hinting that fate was back on track.

Sephiroth explains that the fusion between worlds and emotions has begun, suggesting that a universe where Aerith died and the current universe are now literally “bleeding into each other”, and Aerith seems will not be able to overcome it despite Cloud’s efforts.

Final boss in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

In an incredibly emotional scene, Aerith accepts her fate and Cloud is forced to do the same. Sephiroth taunts him and the climactic battle begins. First, the main characters must confront another version of Jenova named Jenova Lifeclinger. Everyone must work together to stop this latest Jenova threat.

Once that fight is over, Sephiroth challenges Cloud, who reunites with Zack Fair from the alternate universe created at the end of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. They have a quick showdown with Sephiroth before the two are separated and Sephiroth transforms into Sephiroth Reborn, a massive creature and worthy final boss of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

It’s an epic boss battle that forces players to constantly change strategies and face seemingly insurmountable odds. After switching between party members, Cloud will eventually become the central character again.

Here, Cloud once again faces Sephiroth in his “One-Winged Angel” form, but Aerith appears to help him. This is a classic boss battle that any Final Fantasy 7 fan will love, not only for its eye-popping visuals and emotional soundtrack, but also for the hope it fosters.

While Sephiroth is defeated at the end of the fight, the group, and more specifically Cloud, barely feels the joy of victory. Aerith leaves after a tender moment with Cloud and Zack returns to his universe. The scene then returns to the Forgotten Capital and Cloud lifts Aerith’s body, calling for her to wake up, which she does.

Aerith’s fate in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Although it seems like this is a happy ending, the next scene will make fans’ moods drop again. Aerith is only seen by Cloud, while the rest of the group mourns her. Cid is repairing the Tiny Bronco to continue his pursuit of Sephiroth, while Cloud and Aerith share a moment together. Cloud also sees that, in addition to the Empty Materia (which used to be white Materia), he also possesses black Materia. He fuses it with his Buster Sword and tells the group that they must head north to find Sephiroth.

After the final scene with Aerith, Cloud steps into the Tiny Bronco and takes to the sky once more. Aerith stood on the ground watching, no longer a member of the group.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s ending explained

While the ending of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth may be a bit confusing, it’s clear that Aerith is no longer alive, at least in the eyes of the other party members. How that should be explained remains to be determined, but it’s clear that the events that deviated from the Remake are gradually being overwritten by the events of the original, as both worlds merge together. according to Sephiroth. Perhaps in the third part, Aerith will still appear in ghost form that only Cloud can see. Her ending will obviously only be revealed in the final seconds.

Another question is what this means for Zack’s world, where Aerith is presumably still alive, just without the ability to move. Marlene explains that helping Cloud would have saved Aerith, but at least in the main universe that did not happen. Perhaps Zack helping the team defeat Sephiroth Reborn will allow his version of Aerith to survive, or awaken, or…something else.

Square Enix didn’t reveal much about this fact in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, so there are still a lot of theories to be made surrounding that side story. Can Aerith continue to be a main character in the reality where Zack is still alive? Will these two realities blend together in the third game? And most of all, how will Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 end? Same or different from the original? We will have to continue to hope and wait!
