One of the most notable names to appear at Nintendo E3 2021 Direct is Shin Megami Tensei 5, the sequel to the legendary role-playing series from developer Atlus. With a trailer longer than 3 minutes, Nintendo gave fans a closer look at the plot, gameplay as well as confirmed that the game will officially be available on Nintendo Switch in November this year.
Similar to previous versions, the context of Shin Megami Tensei 5 is probably too familiar to fans of this game series. Players will follow a high school student who is taken to a mysterious world of demons. Merging with a strange man who appears from a beam of light in the sky, the protagonist as a Nahobio (described as a “forbidden creature”) quickly accumulates the power to fight back. In a post-apocalyptic space, gamers will fight demons in turn-based encounters and use skills to find their weaknesses. Players can recruit enemies into their group, setting conditions for negotiation. As shown in the trailer, the main character offered a part of his life in exchange for the devil’s alliance. If the demons are no longer useful, gamers can fuse them to create more powerful allies. Finding a demon’s weakness is still the key to success in battles because it will increase the number of moves you are allowed to perform.
